The Seven of Wands is a card of defense, as we find ourselves "under siege". Criticism and attacks from other people are likely when this card comes up. The Three of Swords, the traditional card of heartbreak, indicates emotional wounds, hurtful words, but also clarity, as there's nowhere to hide anymore and a situation is exposed as it really is. The combination of the two cards could imply that we're trying to protect ourselves from heartbreak or judgments.
The elements of the cards are Fire (Seven of Wands) and Air (Three of Swords). A very energetic combination which emphasizes the meanings of the cards. We should expect that stimulated by the Air card, the Fire card will get more intense and vice versa. The more aggressively the three swords is trying to penetrate the brick wall of the seven of wands, the thicker the wall gets, while the thicker the wall get, the harder the swords strike. Something has to give.
